Hi friends, we do not even know how to start explaining about our last days in China. We stayed among the Dong people in Ma'am. We celebrated the Chinese New Year with them, which are the most important days of the year. As a minority group Dong people have their own traditions in which we took part; we danced, we got invited in two different dinners in their houses and participated in their pre-weddings festivals.
Their customs allow them to get married the second day of the new year, two nights before the local boys can visit the girl's houses, if they open the door means they accept to get married with them, otherwise the boys remain in the market. The day after, the girl who accepted, has to make it public in a very curios way: going to the local well to get water, traditionally dressed and with some witnesses. And here is when Nuria joined them. We visited some of the brides at their homes and one of them asked Nuria to accompany her to the well. Imagine the situation, that day all the town gathers on the streets to find out the brides, so there was Nuria behind the bride carrying some poles with buckets and all the local people surprised and laughing so much...
It has been the most exciting experience so far. They opened their houses for us, wanted us to join their celebrations, and we even had to decline some invitations!!!
They gave us everything, and on top of all of these, they stated was their honour. A great lesson for us!
We prolonged our stay there, so just got to Hanoi, Vietnam yesterday after 13 hours train trip!!
We wish you all the best. Enjoy!
