Hey lads! Here we are again, getting connected to the world from Westport, a non-touristic town on the West coast of NZ. However we have had some of the greatest days in NZ here, mainly thanks to Jamie and Emma who welcomed us so warmly to their home and showed us some cool places around! Well, this was last week, then we left on Friday and made our way up North to Abel Tasman N.P where we camped for 3 days. Again friends, we can just talk marvels of NZ. This National Park is one of the smallest and most accessible. Mainly comprises unspoilt pristine beaches reachable after hiking through dense tropical forests. We did different walks and enjoyed the silence and loneliness of this small paradise.
Next stop was Farewell Spit, the most northerly point of the South Island and a curious place. It's a finger of land, about 30Km long just made of sand and dunes with plenty birds as the main inhabitants.
And here we are, back to Westport! Yes, we got down last Monday and enjoyed a 2 days getaway with Jamie and Emma up to Karamea and the Kahurangi National Park. This area is one of the most remote and isolated of NZ, with just one road in and out after driving 100Km. It's a rugged landscape of absolute wilderness, almost tropical and with abundant vegetation. On top of that it boasts fantastic karst formations, so we did some caving and got impressed with its gorges and arches. Wow! An amazing place!
Back to Karamea, the main settlement, we got stranded as a whale with our camper when trying to find a place to sleep by the beach! Luckily all the locals where out that night due a funeral so they gave us a hand towing away our camper...We ended up having a few beers around and good fun!
So that's it lads, somehow it seems that we are stuck here, and we keep putting off our departure day...We decided to stay 2 days more with Jamie and Emma and celebrate Nuria's birthday here.
