Hey lads! Our group tour around NZ keeps moving on! We have been nine days driving throughout North Island and enjoying so much while the weather allowed us.
We had two amazing sunny days to explore the Coromandel Peninsula up north. A scenic finger of land with superb coast, rugged mountains and lonely beaches. A cool experience was the bath we had at the hot water beach, a hot spring nearby the sea where all the gear required is a shovel to dig a hole and some engineering work to channel sea water to refresh the thermal boiling water. Curious!!
We did some terrific bushwalks and got astonished with Cathedral Cove, a sandy beach with an impressive rocky arch.
Next stop over was Rotorua or the "sulphur city". An active geothermal area with loads of vulcanism evidence like geysers, boiling mud pools, hot springs... It is like if the whole area was about to blow up, with smoke and fumaroles everywhere. Digging a hole here is likely to unearth a hot spring, mad!!!!
After this, the pouring rain has been with us all the time. Yeah! It is winter here, so we have to cope with it! We could not even get out of the motorhome at the Tongariro National Park, all covered by fog and snow. The park was the first one to be created and with three towering active volcanoes has to be mind-blowing. No doubt we will come back!!
Tomorrow we will cross to the South Island and hopefully get rid of the bloody rain... Doesn't look well anyway, as some of its areas are among the highest of the world in terms of rainfall. Fingers crossed!
As a team, we are doing well. The mums and friends are spoiling us big time! Nice homemade meals, long chats and competitive table and card games!
The best for all of you!
